Course Description
The Gifted and Talented Program here at Dzilth-Na-O-Dith-Hle Community Grant school will promote active, engaged, learning at high levels, and promote leadership. This GATE program will utilize the GATE curriculum developed by the New Mexico Gifted & Talented State curriculum. The curriculum emphasizes a high level of thinking, performance from the categories of giftedness. These learning activities will promote educational learning, high critical thinking skills development, and application of real life experience, leadership, and teamwork in community services. The philosophy of New Mexico Gifted & Talented State curriculum encourages critical thinking, problem solving, communication, technology applications, real life experiences applications, and high levels of thinking. Participation in this Gifted and Talented program will help students prepare for their future through planning for their education and provide exposure to careers, while reinforcing the NO Child Left Behind (NCLB) standards.
Objectives: Students who participate in the Dzilth-Na-O-Dith-Hle GATE program will be able to:
- Demonstrate their ability in technology
- Demonstrate the ability to think critically and problems solving.
- Recognize the importance of post-secondary education planning & career development.
- Participate in Student Council for leadership for youth for tomorrow.
- Identify the importance of values.
- Demonstrate good decision-making skills.
- Identify the importance of being a good role model.
- Compete in different educational exposes, fairs, & field trips.
Meeting Times:
- The Dzilth-Na-O-Dith-Hle Community Grant School G.A.T.E. program will meet once a day, five times a week on a weekly basis for a minimum of 2.5 hours per week per child.
Attendance:
- Students will be held responsible for their attendance. Students who miss meetings will not be allowed to participate in off-campus activities with the group.
Expectations:
- IN consistency with the Dzilth-Na-O-Dith-Hle G.A.T.E. program’s philosophy, each student will hold themselves to high standards. Negative behavior, comments, and/or refusal to participate in activities will result in a dismissal from the program.
